Things to bring on your offshore or inshore charter adventure.

Taking a charter or hiring a guide is often a very exciting experience. Many factors, such as weather conditions and the appetite of the fish, or what wildlife species you see are beyond our control. There are many things, however, that you can do to make the most out of any fishing trip or guided wildlife tour.

  • Sun Protection: The sun is a major factor during a day of fishing on the East Coast of Florida. Many people do not realize the dangers of the sun until it is too late. The reflection of sunlight off the water and deck of most boats tends to double the sun’s intensity compared to a day on land. Sunscreen is very important as well as some type of hat. Sunglasses are essential and polarized lenses help to reduce glare from the water’s surface, enabling better sight-fishing or viewing of wildlife such as manatees right under the water’s surface. Lightweight, long-sleeve shirts, buffs and pants are also popular forms of sun protection.
  • Sea-sickness Prevention: If you book an offshore charter and you have concerns about seasickness, there are many preventive medicines available such as Dramamine. Most of these medicines do not work unless taken some time before the charter.
  • Electronics: If you plan on documenting your trip, don’t forget your camera and video equipment. All Water Adventures supplies large dry storage areas as well as a cigarette lighter to charge your equipment or cell phone. Large Ziplock bags make easy waterproofing for the ride. Extra memory cards and batteries are always a plus. If you don’t have a LifeProof case for your cell phone, put it in a quality zip lock bag before you bring it on board – just in case! We want to keep you happy and a wet cell phone could ruin your day.
  • Rain Gear: Lightweight rain gear is handy for afternoon showers or when a cool breeze arises. Footwear is also important on a boat. Shoes with good traction are essential and black rubber soles are taboo. Black soles leave scuff marks all over the boat which are very hard to remove. But do not go barefoot on our offshore fishing trips! Though it feels great, going barefoot is very dangerous in a situation filled with hooks, gaffs and sharp teeth.
  • Food and drinks: This is the responsibility of the charter unless prearranged otherwise. We do provide lots of ice water to prevent dehydration. We do allow beer and wine on our adventures.
  • Medicines: Don’t forget any medicines you might need to take.
  • Don’t forget your wallet.
  • It is customary to tip your guide / mate 15% – 20% of the charter cost. Tips can be made in cash or credit card.
  • When you get on the boat make sure you have your keys!

As a charter client, you are generally welcome to bring a favorite rod, however, it would be best to discuss it with our captain beforehand for some expert tackle advice. Our charter fleet is fully loaded with some of the best angling equipment available, and many of our guides are supplied with brand new, state-of-the-art tackle from our corporate sponsors.
